The Area Around Maison Lannet

Our garden is mainly laid to lawns with rose-beds and herbaceous borders  providing colour and scent, there is plenty of room for the barbecue and all the  garden furniture for “al fresco” dining, you can often have all three meals a day in the garden until late September. A garden badminton set is provided and there is plenty of room for other games.

This area is renowned for its wildlife, we have recorded over 50 species of birds here in just a year, Golden Orioles and Hoopoes are regular visitors to the garden. Over 25 species of Orchids are seen in the area along with a myriad of butterflies, dragonflies, moths and other insects.

The wild cherry and false acacia blossom is superb in May and June, which are the best months for Orchids and butterflies, but a visit in September or October will often be rewarded with fine weather and some superb autumn colours, when the woods are a blaze of colour from the chestnuts, wild cherries and maples.

The countryside around us is a patchwork of woods and fields, large and small which provides interesting, but not too taxing, walking or cycling. There are plenty of rivers and lakes around us for boating and fishing.

We are about 10km from Brantome, a very pretty town with many restaurants  and shops, and a similar distance from Nontron a slightly larger town with a history of knife making and manufacturing bellows. There is a festival for the latter in the autumn.

Sunflower fields and open countryside. The castle at Bourdeilles. The weekly market at Brantome. Canoeing on the river at Brantome. Brantome - the 'Venice of the Périgord'. St Jean de Cole - officially one of the prettiest villages in France.
